The Back of the Book: Joyce Meyer provides a comprehensive guide to the range of emotions that we feel every day and shows how to manage them – instead of letting them manage you.
NotJustLaura’s Review: I went through a phase of reading all things Joyce Meyer when I was first living with Bipolar Disorder. I was very ill and struggling just to make it through each day and she seemed to offer a simple way out: read the book, do what it says, enjoy everyday life. As I grew in my Christian faith and learned to better manage my illness, I came to see some problems with her philosophy and moved on to other authors. I’m not terribly well at the moment and find it interesting that I chose to download this book within a couple of days of my mood dropping. In it, Mrs Meyer offers her no-nonsense thoughts on managing the troublesome emotions that can lead us into unwise behaviour. The most useful suggestion for me is the idea that even if we feel we want to, say, eat chocolate even though we’re dieting we don’t have to follow the feeling and blow our diet. I realised as I read the book that I’ve allowed my emotions to sit in the driving seat and, fickle as they are, they may not be the best navigators. I find this knowledge strangely comforting and am starting to make some changes.
