The Back of the Book: Books abound on the topic of our longing for wholeness, the goal of every person’s lifelong journey. But what, exactly, is wholeness? In this volume, Noel Cooper explores the essential elements for successful personal growth, grounding that exporation in the teachings of Jesus. For Christians, the good news is that God reaches into our lives and leads us toward the wholeness, peace of heart, well-being, and happiness that is our deepest yearning. What Makes Us Whole: Finding God in Contemporary Life discusses traditional ideas about God, rejecting some and affirming others, and helps us come to know God as the spiritual power who transforms our lives and leads us to wholeness.
NotJustLaura’s Review: I was invited to review this book by the author who sent me a complimentary copy of the paperback edition for that purpose.
Mr Cooper and I are both Christians – his love of God shines forth from this book – but his understanding of God and Scripture is often very different from mine. He warned me before I accepted the book for review that I would find some of it challenging. He was right. In fact, there are bits that I just plain don’t agree with and probably never will. The world would be a very boring place if we were all the same and I enjoyed reading his ideas even when they were totally foreign to me. I’m not going to go into a detailed summary of what fitted my world-view and what didn’t as I think it’s best to approach a book like this with an open and enquiring mind. If you are curious then I would encourage you to read it for yourself. Mr Cooper’s writing is clear and very concise – in fact there were chapters in which I would have enjoyed a further elaboration of ideas – so doing so would really not be a hardship to anyone interested in one man’s view of life and, indeed, what makes us whole.
