It’s been rather a good week for reading. I’ve finally finished Sons and Lovers and am very pleased to see it gone. I had planned to read Lady Chatterley but think I will not be doing so for the forseeable future – unless one of you can tell me it’s a whole lot better than Sons and Lovers? Karen Armstrong’s book Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life wasn’t really a good fit for me which is disappointing – I wanted a more strongly Christian book – but hasn’t put me off reading more of her work!
I’m reading Elinor M Brent-Dyer’s The School at the Chalet and expect to finish it today. It’s delightfully dated (written in the 1920s) and a long enough time has elapsed from my last reading that I’ve forgotten many of the details so it’s sheer, escapist pleasure – and after two heavy reads I think I deserve it!
Next up shall be James MacDonald’s When Life is Hard for which I received a review copy this week. I’m really looking forward to this one – watch this space for a review later in the week!
Books Read and Reviewed:
- D H Lawrence – Sons and Lovers – 2011/004
- Karen Armstrong – Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life – 2011/005

Ouch..I know none of your book
😦
I think I should check them out.
happy reading anyway
I’d recommend the Karen Armstrong book but not the Lawrence, Aleetha 🙂
I have only read short stories by Lawrence. Hope you are enjoying his book. Have a wonderful week!
I really didn’t enjoy Sons and Lovers, Jan but may give Lady Chatterley a go at some point.
When a book is quite heavy, you can actually feel relieved when you finished it! Enjoy reading this week.
Here’s what I’m reading this week.
I used to love the chalet school books!
I still do, Kim – they just seem so wholesome!
D. H. Lawrence is an author I haven’t read for many years…I think I might have read Sons and Lovers, which tells just HOW many years since I read him…LOL
Definitely enjoyed Lady Chatterley’s Lover.
Have a great week.
Here’s MY MONDAY MEMES post.
Thanks for visiting again, Laurel. I’m just glad Sons and Lovers is done!
These are all new to me titles. When Life is Hard kind of draws me in. I will have to check out. Have a great reading week and thank you for the well wishes for my family!
When Life is Hard is good thus far, Beth. I got it after reviewing another book by the same author: https://notjustreading.wordpress.com/2011/01/12/james-macdonald-always-true-2011002/ Let me know if you decide to give either of them a try 🙂
Congrats on finishing Sons & Lovers! 🙂
I’m reading Jane Eyre for the first time and I’m really enjoying it. 🙂
Haven’t read Jane Eyre for years and years, Angie! So I’ve just got myself a Kindle version of it to add to Mt TBR! Where have you got to?
My book club read Lady Chatterly’s lover a couple years ago and I cringed at the thought but found it not to be nearly as bad as what they said it was. I have not read the other thought so I can not compare 🙂
She has just insulted Mr. Rochester by telling him she doesn’t find him handsome! 😀
LOLs. She’s quite a girl, isn’t she?
